The Off Season For Bikes Is Go-Time for Sleds

The Central Lakes Trail is a beautiful stretch of rail-to-trails paved biking that runs from Fergus Falls to Osakis. The trail connects with trails on either side making it a part of a much bigger trail system. It is a scenic path combining open prairies, woods and lakes. That being said, once the gorgeous fall leaves have fallen and the snow coats the path, it becomes a connector to hundreds of miles of snowmobile paths in West-Central Minnesota. In Douglas County the snowmobile trails are managed by DATA Trails. You can also connect to miles of trails in Otter Tail County

The Central Lakes Trail runs through Alexandria. This is a look at the trail as it waits for groomers to get the green light to get the 2022-2023 snowmobile season going.
The Central Lakes Trail passes right behind Alexandria’s iconic viking, Big Ole.
During much of the year, this sign is not a green light for traffic, but rather a reminder that lots of great rides are taking place in the middle of nature.

The CLT is the site for a lot of great bike riding during more than seven months each year.
You can barely see the trail as it gets wrapped up in the canopy of trees…. and sometimes you’re nearly surrounded by water.
The Central Lakes Trail is a great conduit to hundreds of miles of snowmobile trails in West Central Minnesota.

Alexandria Triathlon 2020

Come enjoy this summer triathlon with us in West Central Minnesota. Hosted at Lake Brophy County Park a recently renovated park facility just outside of Alexandria. This will be the 1st Annual Alexandria Triathlon.  The race will start with a swim or paddle on our small and quiet Lake Brophy,  followed by a 13 mile bike winding through our scenic lakes, and finishing with a 3 mile run on roads and finishing on mowed paths with views of Brophy Lake.

Big Ole SUP-athon

The Big Ole SUPathon is a charitable paddleboard / canoe / kayak festival promoting paddling on Alexandria’s Chain of Lakes and the Long Prairie River. The BOS offers something for everyone, with multi-lake courses of 6, 12 or 26 mi, and river courses of 8 & 10 mi.  Medals are awarded to the top 3 Men’s & Women’s finishers for each course, followed by a celebratory dinner and the United Way charity raffle. The family-friendly Long Prairie River Cruise is on Saturday, July 13th in Carlos. The 10 mi course starts at 9AM and the 8 mi course at 10AM, followed by a foodtruck lunch and awards at the Hwy 29 river access. Ole Oppe Fest

Celebrate the summer with Alexandria’s Summer Kick-Off event! Ole Oppe Fest features Memorial Weekend fun on the shores of Lake Agnes, just north of downtown right on the Central Lakes Trail. On top of many other activities and sales throughout the city including sidewalk sales in Downtown, Ole Oppe Fest will feature live music, food, activities, wing competition, beer garden and more!

Awake the Lakes

Fun summer festival held on the banks of Lake Agnes, just north of Downtown Alexandria right on the Central Lakes Trail. Fill up on ribs, music and fun! This annual event features activities, food, beer garden and live entertainment. Also visit the Runstone Museum next door for their annual History Live! at Fort Alexandria.
